On Wednesday, September 25th, 1996 at 7:30pm in the Rosseau Memorial Community Hall, a general meeting was held which resulted in the formation of the Rosseau Historical Society. People present for that meeting were John & Elizabeth “Betty” (Coate) Hall, Sarah (Ditchburn) Neal, Dr. Jack Skinner, Evelyn (Ditchburn) Parker, Mrs. Dorrie Smith (RHS’s President from 1996 to 2003), Anne (Frost) Stevens, and Emily (Holton) Wood.

At that meeting it was noted that already two successful events had been held in the Village of Rosseau that summer. One was an exhibit of pictures and artifacts from Rosseau and surrounding area in the Frost Hall at the Church of the Redeemer (#15 Oak Street) on Monday, August 5th, 1996. The 2nd event was held on Sunday, September 15th, 1996 at the Rosseau Memorial Community Hall, which was a slide show of a “History of Rosseau” with commentary by local historian Dave Thomas of Parry Sound.
